Season 2 Grant Program Close-Out Framework

Summary

As Polygon’s Community Treasury transitions to Season 3’s accountable growth model, we are implementing formal closure procedures for all Season 2 grant activities. This framework establishes clear deadlines, operational requirements, and accountability measures for the completion of outstanding commitments across all funding tracks (general and direct allocators).

Program Status Overview

Season 2 launched in early 2025 with 11 grant allocators managing approximately ~10.5 million POL across nearly 100 projects. Current progress varies significantly:

  • 63 outstanding direct milestones remain unprocessed

  • Inconsistent allocator performance: Some allocators haven’t deployed any capital, others have finished their season.

    • 2/11 allocators have completed their programs.

    • ~50% of budgeted POL has been allocated.

Closeout is required to resolve these discrepancies, ensure fiscal accountability, and allow full focus on Season 3 deployments.

Next Steps

  • Team Engagement: Polygon Labs employees will reach out directly to allocators and project teams to ensure compliance with deadlines (detailed below).

  • Transition to Season 3: Completion of the processes listed below will formally close all Season 2 obligations and enable full focus on Season 3’s accountable growth initiatives.

  • Consolidated Analysis: Once Season 2 has closed out, The Community Treasury will publish a comprehensive Season 2 impact report, aggregating allocator submissions into a single assessment of program effectiveness.

Mandatory Close-Out Requirements

Hard Deadline: October 31, 2025

All Season 2 activities must be completed by this date:

  • Fund Distribution: All allocated capital must be fully dispersed to selected projects

  • Milestone Processing: All pending milestone reviews and payments must be finalized

  • Documentation: All required reporting and impact assessments must be posted to the Forum

Operational Rules

No Budget Rollovers

  • Season 2 allocations cannot be rolled forward by allocators. Any unspent funds must be returned to the Treasury for re-deployment under Season 3 programs.

Fund Recovery Process

  • Allocators holding un-deployed capital must return funds to the Community Treasury by the deadline.

    • Polygon Labs will provide direct instructions and operational support for returning funds, including required wallet addresses and transaction verification.

    • Partially completed projects receive prorated payments based on achieved milestones only.

  • The October 31, 2025 deadline is a compliance date, not a spending window: (1) non-compliant teams will be formally designated as such, and (2) milestone-based projects must have submitted completion requests by this date.

    • No new project deployments will be recognized after this notice.

    • Non-compliant teams may be ineligible to receive Treasury funding in the future.

Direct Track Milestone Submission Process

  • Season 2 milestone requests for the direct track will no longer be processed through Questbook.

    • A new Polygon-managed milestone submission form is being implemented. All direct-track teams with outstanding milestones must submit through this form by October 31, 2025.

    • Project teams will receive direct communication and instructions for using the form from a Treasury team member.

Impact Reporting Requirements

All grant allocators must submit to the Forum a comprehensive final report by October 31st, 2025:

Required Metrics

  • Total projects funded and amounts dispersed

  • Milestone completion rates and timeline analysis

  • Quantifiable ecosystem outcomes (TVL, transaction volume, user growth)

  • Founder success stories and long-term impact assessment
