  1. Key Topics for Polygon
  • What do you believe are the most important topics and themes for Polygon at this time?
I believe that widespread adoption through real-world use cases is crucial for Polygon at this stage. Developers play a pivotal role in driving this adoption by building practical applications that leverage Polygon’s technical strengths.

Key Areas:

  • Real-World Asset (RWA) Tokenization: Tokenizing assets like real estate and financial instruments democratizes access and increases liquidity. Developers can utilize Polygon’s scalability and security to build platforms that handle high transaction volumes efficiently, enabling fractional ownership in emerging markets.
  • Adopting Best Practices Through Cross-Ecosystem Collaboration: Cross-ecosystem collaboration enables learnings in refining our approach to dApp adoption on Polygon. For example, the recent reevaluation of Lido on Polygon highlighted the importance of focusing on core strengths and adopting a measured approach to expansion. Future initiatives should consider smaller-scale, milestone-based pilots to test feasibility and ROI before committing significant resources. This strategy mitigates risks, provides better cost control, and allows for effective pivoting based on measurable results. By integrating these best practices, we can enhance governance efficiency and ensure that dApp development aligns with the long-term sustainability of the ecosystem.
  • Payment Solutions and Remittances: Building payment and remittance solutions on Polygon enables faster, low-cost cross-border transactions. A long term collaborative example is with Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading super app with over 180 million users, which launched a Web3 wallet powered by Polygon. This integration allows digital payments using XSGD, a Singapore dollar-backed stablecoin, demonstrating how blockchain can seamlessly integrate into everyday transactions. Developers can address the needs of high-volume, real-time remittance services, particularly benefiting migrant workers in Asia. Effective governance practices help these solutions remain adaptable to both regulatory environments and user requirements.
  1. Areas of Contribution
  • My contributions focus on helping enhance governance structures and facilitating real world adoption within the Polygon ecosystem. By engaging with Asia-based communities such as ACCESS and Whitepaper Reading Club, we can generate network efforts that can help amplify Polygon’s reach and impact to accelerate adoption, facilitate knowledge sharing, and foster collaboration among developers, users, and stakeholders. For example, I am working on piloting the acceptance of ACCESS membership dues through platforms like Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading super app that recently integrated a Web3 wallet powered by Polygon. By collaborating with ACCESS—which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2024 and has been pivotal in shaping Singapore’s blockchain and digital assets landscape—we can align on-chain and off-chain governance mechanisms with Polygon’s adoption goals.
  1. Ecosystem Goals
  • Align Technology with Market Needs: Use governance mechanisms to gather community and market feedback, ensuring that technological advancements are directly aligned with user needs. By facilitating user-friendly experiences through governance, we lower barriers to entry and encourage broader participation.
  • Collaborative Growth through Inclusive Governance: Utilize governance structures to incorporate feedback from the Asian market. Inclusive governance helps drive technical roadmaps, meet business objectives and drive innovation that is commercially viable.

Conflicts of Interest

Given my involvement in various projects, including acting as a delegate for Lido, I am committed to maintaining transparency and managing any potential conflicts of interest responsibly. I pledge to act with integrity and prioritize the best interests of Polygon and its community in all my endeavors.

  1. Candidate Experience

I am experienced governor both inside and outside of crypto. I have held director level and associate dean level positions at large higher education institutions and have held leadership positions that held the responsibility of supporting thousands of people. I have designed governance processes and institutional policies for over a decade, some of which have materially changed vast organisations with demonstrable impact on their national and global performance.

I am highly technically minded, with a PhD in Physics and a blockchain and data science specialism. I have held lectureship positions in mathematics and cryptography and have been at least peripherally involved in crypto for around a decade, with close to 5 years full time in the space. I am the Founder of Factory Labs a company that builds DAO infrastructure and provides technically-oriented professional services for protocols and DAOs, with its own proprietary toolkit of decentralised governance and crypto economic primitives, which will soon stitch together to form FactorDAO – a DAO that builds DAOs.

I have designed and built several EVM applications, one of which was one of the very first projects deployed to Polygon. I have been deliberating the nuances of Ethereum protocol architecture on my public profile for several years and frequently publish technical articles in DAOs and in public fora.

  1. Delegate Philosophy / Motivation

My delegate philosophy cuts across the following main areas:

  • Governance Efficiency - I am allergic to wasteful bureaucracy and have spent years designing and building primitives for futarchy, governance minimised token mechanisms and meritocracy based reputation systems for this reason. As a delegate I will apply pressure to areas I think are wasteful or that could be improved and be made quicker and more efficient.

  • Value Accrual - I will be keenly looking out for protocol mechanisms that will add utility to the POL token, enhance its value accrual dynamics and minimise excess POL inflation. I have spent years designing token economies and consider myself one of the industry leaders in mechanism design and cryptoeconomics. This will be a key area of my focus.

  • Outreach - In my earlier career I worked in science outreach for an astrophysics research institute. I consider the work of explaining complex technological and scientific endeavours to the wider public to be an art form and I will use my platform and skills in this area to support the wider growth of knowledge of the Polygon protocol.

  1. Key Topics for Polygon
  • Ethereum Alignment
  • Culture Formation
  • Decentralisation
  • Privacy and Cypherpunk Philosophy
  1. Areas of Contribution
  • Governance
  • DAO tooling, Grants and Public Goods Strategy
  • Education and Outreach
  • Technical Knowledge and Cryptoeconomics
  1. Ecosystem Goals

I think it is imperative that Polygon succeeds in being an industry leader alongside Optimism, Arbitrum, ZKSync and other chain-of-chain players . The stronger the competition amongst these, the more substantial the evolutionary pressure on decentralisation and scalability of the wider EVM ecosystem. I aim to maintain a high degree of understanding, technical knowledge and insight across these ecosystems and how they play into Ethereum core governance and use it to support Polygon as much possible.

Personally, I am keen to use my delegate platform here to build a long term presence and supportive influence in the Polygon ecosystem and I am very keen to work with key polygon stakeholders to provide value wherever it is needed most.

Finally, I am keen to see strategies that bring high quality token flow to the chain, both in terms of new assets and long running sustainable token economies.

Conflicts of Interest

I am a delegate in ZKSync and Scroll, but aim to keep my delegate responsibilities to a tight set. I consider it unlikely, but if there arrives any scenarios that generate obvious conflicts of interests I will publicly declare them and remove myself from the context if necessary.

I am the CEO of a company that works with protocols such as Polygon. There may be scenarios that arise, such as voting on proposals that may benefit my company in some manner. I will refrain from voting on any such proposals if they arrive.

The governance team of L2BEAT currently consists of @kaereste (Krzysztof Urbanski) and @Sinkas (Anastassis Oikonomopoulos). Both members have extensive knowledge and experience in the broader web3 ecosystem, on both technical and non-technical fronts. Any governance actions of the L2BEAT delegation team will be the product of research, fact-checking and ideation of the 2 aforementioned members.

As L2BEAT, we consider ourselves experts on blockchain scaling solutions. We have a deep technical understanding of underlying protocols and a broad overview of available solutions. We’ve spent hours understanding the code, documentation, and on-chain data of every project listed on our website.

In terms of DAO-relevant work, we served on several grant committees and DAO initiatives and have helped organize the work of the DAOs we’re involved with.

  1. Delegate Philosophy/Motivation

For us, governance isn’t just about casting a vote. The real magic happens during healthy debates and coming to conclusions together. Voting should just be the cherry on top of a great community-driven process.

When participating in governance, we hold the following principles in mind:

  • Transparency & Open Communication: We believe in being open about our decision-making process and keeping the community informed about any proposals or issues we discuss.
  • Community Focus: Our top priority is to always consider the community’s needs and interests in every decision we make.
  • Inclusiveness: We’re committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, where everyone’s voice is heard, regardless of their background or experience.
  • Accountability: We value accountability and are always open to feedback, which helps us continually improve and better serve our community.

At L2BEAT we believe that crypto is the new infrastructure for the future financial system. As such, we believe that in order for it to be successful, it needs to be:

  • Permissionless, no one should need a third party’s permission to join the network,
  • Censorship resistant, everyone should be free from arbitrary censorship,
  • Trustless, it’s all about cryptographic proofs and consensus, not trusting a central party
  • Decentralised, power and control should be spread across many participants
  • Transparent, everyone should be able to verify and account for transactions, even if they’re private
  • Secure and safe, user safety and security come first, not relying on anyone acting honestly.
  • Open-source, we live by “don’t trust, verify,” so if we can’t see the code, we can’t trust it.
  1. Key Topics for Polygon
  • Interoperability
  • Mainstream adoption
  • Thriving builder ecosystem
  1. Areas of Contribution

We’re particularly interested in contributing to the protocol’s governance because we recognize that proper governance is paramount for any protocol that wants to be efficient while remaining decentralized. The precedents we establish today will significantly influence future organizational structures and systems. Consequently, we view our engagement in governance as a professional responsibility, and our team is dedicated to addressing all governance and policy issues that arise within the protocols we’re engaged with. Also, given our unique position as L2BEAT, we’re also interested in helping advance technical improvements.

  1. Ecosystem Goals

We firmly believe that in the relatively near future, a significant portion of financial activity will transition to crypto-based infrastructures (and potentially, much more than just financial activity, though we’ll focus on that for now). In essence, this belief is grounded in the idea that adopting a blend of public and private blockchain frameworks will enable companies to substantially lower both development and maintenance costs while also mitigating risks. This perspective seems widely shared across the industry, which helps explain the high valuations of infrastructure projects, including Polygon.

With this in mind, Polygon’s overarching goal—and the DAO’s specific mission—should be to position Polygon as a leading player in this emerging landscape. When crypto-based infrastructures dominate financial activity, Polygon should aim to capture a substantial share of this activity in terms of daily usage, total value locked, and the breadth of supported use cases.

Conflicts of Interest

It’s not necessary COI but it’s worth mentioning that we are active delegates in other ecosystems, with more coming in the near future. We also have a working relationship with almost every major Ethereum L2 project and with most bridge projects.

Applicant Details

Delegate Platform

Candidate Experience

I am an early adopter of Polygon technologies with extensive experience in scaling solutions and blockchain infrastructure. As part of Gateway.FM, I lead the development of Presto, a rollup-as-a-service platform designed to simplify and accelerate rollup deployment. At Presto, we have created numerous rollups that integrate with AggLayer and are actively working toward adopting Pessimistic Proofs technology, which is essential for improving trustless interoperability and security in Layer-2 ecosystems.

Delegate Philosophy/Motivation

My motivation for participating in Polygon governance comes from a strong desire to support decentralized, scalable, and secure systems. I am dedicated to making the governance process clear, fair, and inclusive.

Key Topics for Polygon

I believe the following topics are the most important for Polygon’s growth:

  • Scaling and Infrastructure: Advancing rollups, zkEVM, AggLayer, and mechanisms like Pessimistic Proofs to solve scalability and security challenges.
  • Decentralization: Strengthening the validator network and governance systems.
  • Developer Support: Building better tools and resources for developers.
  • Ecosystem Alignment: Encouraging collaboration among projects within Polygon to create seamless solutions.

Areas of Contribution

  • Governance: Improving decision-making to better represent community interests.
  • Technical Improvements: Supporting proposals focused on scalability, rollups, and security features like Pessimistic Proofs.
  • Community Building: Bringing new members to the Polygon ecosystem through the Presto platform and educating them while abstracting the complexity of zkEVM technology.
  • ZK Technology: Driving adoption and enhancements in zero-knowledge technologies.

Ecosystem Goals

My goal is to help Polygon become the leading platform for scalable and decentralized solutions, empowering both developers and users. Through governance, I aim to:

  1. Improve network performance and user experience.
  2. Build a strong, inclusive community.
  3. Strengthen Polygon’s position as a leader in blockchain innovation.

Conflicts of Interest

I am affiliated with Gateway.FM, where I lead the development of Presto, a rollup-as-a-service platform. As a delegate, I will prioritize the broader interests of the Polygon community over individual or corporate interests.
